Concetta E. “Connie” Manzo, 94

Mrs. Concetta E. “Connie”  Manzo, 94, of Ellwood City, passed away early Friday morning on June 22, 2018 at the Butler Memorial Hospital.

Connie was born on March 3, 1924 in Ellwood City to the late Antonio Nocera and Antoinette (DiCerbo) Nocera. She is a member of the Lincoln High School class of 1942. Connie married Emmett Manzo on August 22, 1946. She is a member of the Holy Redeemer Parish and the Holy Redeemer Christian Mothers.

Connie was a devoted mother and an excellent housewife, an occupation in which she took great pride. She had a passion for canning, cooking, especially baking, and has collected countless recipes which she loved to alter to perfection. She was extremely charitable and held her family and friends very close to her. Connie was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and centered her weekends with the weekly visits of her family. She is a matriarch of high standard and truly to be admired and will be greatly missed.

Connie was the sole survivor of all her family members on the Nocera and Manzo line. She is survived by her three sons, Frank Manzo, who was her faithful and dedicated caretaker for many years, David (Victoria) Manzo both of  Ellwood City, and Gregory (Mary Ellen) Manzo of West Pittsburgh. She leaves six grandchildren, Lisa (David) Yurechko of Wexford,  Julia Manzo of Erie, Carl Manzo and his fiancee’ Samantha of Hershey, Gabriel of Toledo, OH, Katie (Brian) Lowell of Chicago, and Emmett (Shannon) Manzo of Shenango. She has presently four great-grandchildren, David and Dominic Yurechko, Allie Manzo, and Thomas Lowell.

She was preceded in death be her parents, her husband Emmett who were married for 55 years, her two sisters, Rose (Louis) Friello and Joan (Felix) Fazioli, her brothers, Joseph (Viola) Nocera, Martin (Rose) Nocera, and John who died as a young boy.

The family wishes to recognize all the extremely devoted health caretakers, including doctors, surgeons, nurses and support staff of the Ellwood City Medical Center and the Butler Memorial Hospital, and the nurses and physical therapists of the Allegheny Health Network. The family is truly appreciative and grateful of all the attention given to her to make her difficult path a comfortable one. Also, special thanks to all those who gave comforting and encouraging words and prayers throughout her hospital stays. It assisted us immensely over the past several weeks.

Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the Samuel Teolis Funeral Home, Inc. and Cremation Services. A mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday at 10:00 am at the Holy Redeemer Church with Father Mark Thomas officiating. Interment will follow at the Locust Grove Cemetery. Those attending the funeral mass are asked to meet at the funeral home on Monday by 9:20 am. Members of the Holy Redeemer Christian Mothers are asked to meet at the church on Monday by 9:50 am to form an honor guard.

Memorial contributions in Mrs. Manzo’s name may be made to the Holy Redeemer Angel Fund.
