HARRISBURG – Staunch Second Amendment supporter Rep. Aaron Bernstine (R-Beaver/Butler/Lawrence) today announced his plan to use legislative tools at his disposal to stop the state House of Representatives from voting on anti-gun legislation which would violate the Pennsylvania Constitution.
“Our state Constitution is crystal clear when it says citizens’ Second Amendment rights ‘shall not be questioned,’” Bernstine says. “I took an oath to defend and protect our Constitution, and I take that very seriously. I will use any and all legislative tactics available to defeat these attempts to infringe on the rights of law-abiding gun owners.”
Bernstine filed 79 amendments to two pieces of gun control legislation (House Bills 1872 and 2227) which were passed out of the House Judiciary Committee Tuesday and Wednesday.
“These amendments will drastically revise the original bills to ensure our constitutional right to keep and bear arms is not threatened or questioned,” Bernstine said.
House Bill 1872 would ban certain types of firearms and firearm devices such as bump stocks.
House Bill 2227 would allow law enforcement or a household member to seek a court order to suspend a person’s right to possess or purchase a firearm without due process.
“Legislation that chips away at our Second Amendment rights will never get my support in the General Assembly, and I’ll do everything in my power to stop such attempts in their tracks,” Bernstine said.
House Bill 1872 passed the House Judiciary Committee by a vote of 14-13, while the committee voted 18-9 to advance House Bill 2227 to the full House.

There is no sensible reason to have a bumpstock. His comment that they were only used in one shooting is totally disrespectful to the families of all those lost in the Vegas shooting. How many innocent lives will be lost before people like him come to their senses.
