Sara I. Vaneman, 100

Sara I. Vaneman, 100, of Old Pittsburgh Rd. , New Castle passed away Saturday, June 23, 2018 at the Haven Nursing Home following a short illness.

Born May 5, 1918 in New Castle, she was the daughter of the late James and Grace Mayberry Edwards . Sara was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, David R. Vaneman who passed away on April 5, 1994, her step mother, Lura Gill Edwards; three sisters, Leona Crenny, Prudence Matthews, and Rheda Glaspay; and a grandson, Daryl L. Baker.

Sara graduated from New Castle High School in 1936. She was a longtime active member of the Savannah United Methodist Church where she was a former Sunday School and Bible School Teacher. Sara enjoyed playing the piano and organ and going to church activities. She also enjoyed crocheting, sewing, bird watching, and reading. Sara was a past volunteer for “Contact Ears”.

Survivors include two sons, Carl (Judy) Vaneman of Punxsutawney, Mark Vaneman of New Castle; daughter, Nancy (Richard) Baker of New Castle; 4 grandchildren, Jeff Baker, Suzanne Workman, Christopher Vaneman, and Brandy Pizor; 10 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday June 28 from 4 until the time of the funeral service at 6 pm at the Marshall Funeral Home, Wampum. Rev. Mark Goswick will officiate the service. Interment will take place in Oak Park Cemetery.
