Cassandra Douglas, Ellwood City Native has written a children’s book centered on the Ellwood City Lincoln Clock Tower. “The Clock Tower Fairy: Ellwood City Tales Book One,” is about a timekeeping fairy, who has to change the clock every hour when her sand timer runs out.
The book takes you on a journey of uncertainty, where the clock tower fairy wants to take the night off from changing the time because she is tired. She falls asleep doesn’t change the time and wakes up to a different town, no one is awake the birds aren’t chirping and the animals are asleep.
Since the fairy didn’t change the time on the clock tower, the townspeople, animals and birds didn’t know when to wake up. The fairy learns an important lesson in the end that her duties are important, even when she doesn’t want to do them.
Douglas Graduated from Community College of Beaver County with a degree in English Literature. As a lifelong lover of writing and with much support from family members she decided to write her first children’s book.
“I’ve always loved writing and it’s always come easy to me,” Douglas said. “Since I was young my mother always told me I should write children’s books and I figured it would be a good stepping stone into the world of publication.”
The book focusing on Ellwood City was inspired by stories like “The Night Before Christmas.”
“There were a lot of things that inspired me, but what really set my intention on the series being specifically Ellwood City based were Christmas stories like ‘The Night Before Christmas,’” she said. “Parents read these stories to their children and it makes the kids feel like their very own household is part of the story.”
The book being about Ellwood City is unique. There are many children’s books in the world, but not many target a specific demographic like Douglas did.
According to Douglas, The idea of the book is to make the children of Ellwood City feel like their town is just as magical and exciting as the other fairy tales they read about.
Douglas is still working on the next couple books in the series, but she aims to have a life lesson incorporated into each book.
“I want children to grow up and talk about the fairy tales and legends of the Ellwood City,” she said. “The book is a fun way for parents to teach their kids a good and valuable life lesson. Each of my books will have a lesson to be learned for the young readers.”
The book can be purchased through Amazon, and locally in Ellwood City at Dayspring Gifts on 6th.
