Ellwood City Wolverines Clinches Lead in Fifth Inning to Defeat Mohawk Area
Ellwood City Wolverines took the lead late in the game in a 6-4 victory over Mohawk Area on Wednesday. The game was tied at two with Ellwood City Wolverines batting in the top of the fifth when Sammy DiCaprio singled on a 1-2 count, scoring two runs.
Ellwood City Wolverines opened up scoring in the first inning. An error scored one run for Ellwood City Wolverines.
In the bottom of the first inning, Mohawk Area tied things up at two when an error scored one run for Mohawk Area.
Sean Busby pitched Ellwood City Wolverines to victory. He surrendered three runs on nine hits over four and two-thirds innings, striking out eight. Noah Rinker and Ryan Hampton entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief. Rinker recorded the last five outs to earn the save for Ellwood City Wolverines.
Bobin took the loss for Mohawk Area. He lasted five innings, allowing seven hits and four runs while striking out six.
Ellwood City Wolverines collected eight hits. Ryan Gibbons and Blaze Chambers each had multiple hits for Ellwood City Wolverines. Riverside Panthers Varsity Nabs Win Over Freedom Area Despite Early 4-Run Inning
Freedom Area scored four runs in the fourth inning, but Riverside Riverside Panthers Varsity still won 14-4 on Wednesday. Noah Henderson, Zach Rosa, and Tanner Boyer all drove in runs in the frame.
In the second inning, Riverside Panthers Varsity got their offense started when Jake Bauman threw a wild pitch allowing one run across the plate for Riverside.
The Panthers notched five runs in the third inning. Riverside big bats were led by Danny Fox, Nick Ottaviani, Brian MacMurdo, Drew Speicher, and Dylan Shannon, all driving in runs in the inning.
Ottaviani led the Panthers Varsity to victory on the pitcher’s mound. He allowed zero hits and zero runs over three innings, striking out two and walking zero.
Nolan Colaric took the loss for Freedom Area. He surrendered five runs on zero hits over two-thirds of an inning, striking out one.
Bauman started the game for Freedom Area. He went two innings, allowing one run on one hit, striking out three and walking one.
Speicher led Panthers Varsity with two hits in five at bats.
