Three Ellwood City Wolverine Wrestlers Placed in the WPIAL Championships this weekend. The Championship finals featured 23 wrestlers currently ranked Top 25 in Pennsylvania.
Austin Walley used a decision victory over Austin Mele, Burrell, 4-2, to take 3rd place in the 170-pound consolation match. Walley had ousted Quaker Valley’s Keegan Forsythe in his opening round match, but fell in a decision to Jaden Detz, of Southmoreland, in the semifinals of the 170-pound division.
Donavan Chambers also was victorious in his consolation bout with a 10-3 decision over Josh Agnew, Jefferson-Morgan. Chambers wrapped up 5th place in the 132-pound consolation match.
Wolverine Jake Alberts was downed with a pin at 0:32 and fell to Trent Valovchik, of Burrell, in the 106-pound 5th place consolation match, resulting in a 6th place finish for Alberts
For the Wolverines, wrestling regions begin Friday, February 23rd at Indiana, PA.
