Ellwood City Wolverines boys basketball team won 53-34 against New Brighton on Tuesday with the help of Sean Busby, who scored team high 13 points.
The Wolverines scored early, claiming a 24-12 lead at the half. Lincoln cemented their lead in the final quarter, scoring 16 points, to avenge their 2-point home loss to New Brighton in December. Ellwood City also snapped a three game losing streak.
Busby led Wolverine offense with 13 points, including 11 during the third period. He also contributed seven rebounds and one block. Busby also finished 7-8 from the free throw stripe.
Anthony Roth (11 points) and Rick Pitrelli (10 points) each had multiple three-pointers. Also chipping in for Lincoln were Broc Boariu (9 points, 10 rebounds, 5 rebounds, 1 block), Luca Botti (8 points, 7 rebounds), and Andrew O’Brien (2 points, 2 rebounds).
Chris Gerello scored a game high 17 points in defeat for the Lions (4-10 overall). Outside of Gerello’s strong shooting performance (7-12 FG), the rest of the Lions shot only 7-35 from the field.
Ellwood City finished the game with 38 rebounds (12 offensive / 26 defensive), two blocks and four steals. The Wolverines also attempted 23 free throws in the contest, connecting on 17-23 from the charity stripe.
Ellwood City (3-3 Section 1-3A, 11-6 overall) next hosts Riverside on Friday night in another rivalry contest. The Wolverines knocked off the Panthers earlier this year at Riverside. Riverside (8-6 overall) will be looking to bounce back from their Tuesday night defeat at the hands of Aliquippa.
