Ada Louise (Stratton) Hinkle went to be with our Lord on January 23, 2018 at 3:00 AM, after a short illness, while residing at the Lowrie Place, Butler, PA.
Ada was 91 years old and was the youngest of seven children and last survivor of Richard Stratton and Edna (Sloan) Stratton. She was born at home near Ellwood City, PA. She met her husband, Robert Edgar Hinkle, who just returned from the Army, at the U.S. Steel Tube Mill in Ellwood City. He was a crane operator and she was a record keeper at the time of their meeting. They were united in marriage on Valentine’s Day, 1946.
The Hinkle’s moved from Hardyville, PA and made Portersville their home until passing. Ada was well known for her cooking abilities and prepared hundreds of meals for people living in and near Portersville and those passing through. She started cooking at Prior’s Restaurant, Eppinger’s Restaurant, the Kopper Kettle Restaurant then Brown’s Country Kitchen. Her recipes consisted of “some of this, some of that, a dash of this and a little bit of this” so the family has a difficult time in replicating her dishes. She was a hard worker and was admired by all that knew her.
In her earlier years she was involved in the cub scouts and was a Den Mother. She also loved to bowl and was a member of several leagues that went on to win the top prizes. Her and her team often went to bowling tournaments in various parts of the Tri-State area and seldom came back defeated. She was also known as being extremely lucky in playing bingo, cards and with the occasional trip to a casino.
Ada is survived by two sons, Bob and his wife Betty of Portersville and Jon and Mylinda Hinkle of Woodbine, MD., and daughter in law Barb Hinkle of Harrisville. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Ada was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Hinkle on December 02, 2010, a son Brian Thompson Hinkle and a son Gary Wayne Hinkle, sister Mary Kay Gossett, sister Ruth Steckman, brothers Leighton, Harold, Richard “Bud” and Royal Stratton, who was killed in action in WWII.
The family wishes to give a heart felt thank you to Butler Memorial Hospital, The Lowrie Place and to the Heartland Hospice.
Family and friends will be received at the Marshall Funeral Home, Ellwood City, PA from 2:00 PM until the time of the Memorial Service at 4:00 PM this Saturday with Rev. Dana Opp officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heartland Hospice, 2200 Garden Drive, S. 200C, Seven Fields, PA 16046.
