Old Photo Friday: Circle Playground

This week’s Old Photo Friday is a photo of Circle Playground, taken in 1980.

Not only is it interesting to see how much the playground has changed since then, but there is a news story attached with the photo:

“A seven-story building to provide apartments for the elderly will replace the Circle Playground, shown here, if the developer, Neshannock Corp. of Arlington, Va., and the owner of the property, the Ellwood City Area School District come to terms on a purchase price. In the left background is the Robert Morabito home at 315 Fountain Ave. and at the extreme right is part of the Robert Punzell home at 389 Pittsburgh Circle, which, along with the John P. “Jack” Brest home at 311 Fountain Ave., would be razed to make way for the project.”

Clearly the Ellwood City School District and developer never came to an agreement, and for that, we now have a beautiful, newly renovated Circle Playground.
