The public has been on the edge of their seats waiting for the results of the River of the Year contest, which were finally announced this week.
The Connoquenessing was in a tight race with Loyalsock Creek, all throughout the voting, but ultimately came up short in the end.
“Unfortunately The Connoquenessing came in short for 1st place by 720 votes- Loyalsock Creek won with 6100 votes, the Connie with 5,381,” Tracey Hughes stated. “We thank everyone for their support and knowing we are the hidden gem of Western Pa.”
The other participating waterways were Lackawanna River, which took third place with 1,676 votes; Lower Susquehanna, which took fourth place with 1,113 votes; and last place with a total of 791 votes was Little Juniata.
The waterways were competing for a several thousand dollar grant.
Despite the loss, Hughes reminds the public that there are still good things to come for the Connoquenessing.
“Please watch for our 2018 Creek clean up new launch area that the Allegheny Aquatic Alliance is working on and future floats.”
