This week the Ellwood City Boys Varsity team played a very close game against Rochester, defeating them by a mere two points. Rochester took the lead in the second quarter but Ellwood regained control in the third and fourth, ending the game with a close 64-62 victory. Forward Sean Busby was recognized as the “player of the game.”
Tonight the Ellwood City Wolverines will face off against their long-time rival, the Panthers at Riverside High School.
Riverside’s Boys Varsity team played against Shenango Wednesday, winning the contest 65-40, and bringing their season record to 5-3 overall.
The Ellwood City Girls Varsity team also played two games this week, losing to Farrell 61-33 on Tuesday but recovering the loss last night against Freedom with an ending score of 56-51. Junior Lady Wolverine Natalia Greco poured in a game-high 28 points (11-19 shooting, 14 rebounds, 4 steals) in the victory over the Bulldogs. The Ellwood City girls (4-7 overall) have another game scheduled for Saturday at home against Quaker Valley at 1:30pm.
Mohawk proved to be a challenging opponent for the Riverside Girls. They lost their game this week against the Indians 48-27, leaving their season record now with two losses (7-2 overall). The Lady Panthers will travel for their rivarly game and play the Ellwood City Wolverines on Monday, January 8th.
