Yesterday, Ellwood City Borough Council voted 5-2 not to renew [previous] Borough Manager Robert Villella’s contract for another two years – effectively ending his term yesterday.
Starting today, a collaborated effort between the new Council President Judith Dici, council, and the other Borough employees, will be used in place of the Borough Manager to perform day-to-day duties while council searches for an individual replacement.
Council did not release an official statement on the reason for letting Villella go, however, new council members Rob Brough and Lisa Guerrera released their own statement:
According to Borough Secretary, Linda List, there is no exact time frame in which a new manager is expected to be hired.
“Council will have to decide how they would like to advertise for the position and how and when to conduct interviews – it certainly won’t be an overnight decision, but we will get through it,” she said.
Further updates about the position will be discussed at the January agenda meeting.
Robert Villella has been the Borough Manager for the last four years, and his salary was approximately $70,000 a year.
