Ellwood City used double-double efforts from Broc Boariu and Sean Busby to emerged victorious 65-56 against Springdale Wednesday night at Lincoln High School.
Busby finished with 16 points and 12 rebounds (6 offensive) to power the Wolverine offense attack that ack with a vengeance in the final two quarters, after being behind early in the game, trailing 30-26 at the half.
Lincoln gained on their opponent late in the game, scoring a game-high 23 points in the third quarter.
Boariu was a big defensive contributor as well, racking up 11 rebounds, four steals and one block to go along with his 16 points (2 3-pointers made).
Anthony Roth scored a team-high 22 points for the Wolverines who used 16 offensive rebounds and 20 second chance points to pull away from Springdale.
Roth paved the way for Lincoln offensively, making 43% (6-for-14) of shots attempted while also sinking 90% (9-for-10) of free throws attempted.
Also chipping in for Lincoln were Luca Botti (6 points, 3 rebounds, 1 block) and Ryan Busby (4 points, 7 rebounds).
Springdale’s Michael Zolnierczyk record his own double-double (22 points, 11 rebounds) in a losing effort. Zolniercyk scored 10 first quarter points when Sprindale posted an early 19-14 lead.
Ellwood City finished the game with 42 rebounds two blocks and nine steals. The Wolverines were also very strong on the free throw stripe (22 of 28, 79%).
The Wolverines (3-1 overall) next play away at Shenango on Saturday, December 16th at 1:00pm.
OF NOTE: The Ellwood City Lady Wolverines pulled out a 43-33 victory over Union Area on Wednesday Night in New Castle to move their season record to 2-1.
