All four local basketball teams in action Friday night were victorious in their respective Tip-Off Tournament opening round contests. Ellwood City Wolverines girls & boys squads along with Riverside Pantehrs girls and boys squads are all off to strong starts to their seasons after handily securing victories Friday night.
Each team will play second games in their respective tournaments on Saturday.
Ellwood City Wolverines Notch A Win Against Commodore Perry
Broc Boariu scored 21 points, helping Lincoln notch a 80-31 victory over Commodore Perry on Friday. The Wolverines will face Quaker Valley Saturday in Sharpsville.
After an impressive 41-8 run, Ellwood City Wolverines ended the first half in the lead with a score of 45-12.
Boariu led the charge for Lincoln’s offense, scoring 21 points, with 12 points during the first period. He also contributed two rebounds and four steals. Anthony Roth (18 points) and Nico Lucarelli (6 points) each sunk multiple three-pointers. Also contributing for Lincoln were Ryan Busby (8 points, 6 rebounds), Luca Botti (6 points, 1 steal, 1 block), Sean Busby (6 points, 4 rebounds, 1 block), and Rick Pitrelli (5 points, 3 rebounds, 2 steals.

OF NOTE: The Ellwood City Lady Wolverines jumped out early with a 21-2 first quarter spurt Friday night and cruised to an easy victory over Springdale 51-24 in their tournament opening round action. The Lady Wolverines will play Valley on Saturday in Springdale Tipoff Classic
