Monaca, PA – The 30th Annual Native American Gathering, sponsored as an educational event by Community College of Beaver County (CCBC) and Logstown Associates Historical Society, will be held at the Center Township campus’s Dome on Saturday, October 14 from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Sunday, October 15 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
This popular community event is an exciting and informative experience featuring music, dancing, exhibits, seminars, food, and craftspeople. Other highlights of this year’s Gathering will include craft contests, dance competitions, ethnic foods, traders, Native American dancing and etiquette lessons, and displays on the history of Logstown.
In celebration of its milestone 30th anniversary, the Gathering’s featured national presenter will be Mike Dupuy from “Birds of Prey…Up Close and Personal,” which has been featured in National Geographic Magazine, The Washington Post, television news stories, film and video, and hundreds of performances throughout the nation.
“Birds of Prey…Up Close and Personal” will be performed on Saturday only from 2:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Also in attendance will be Head Man Dancer Blain Tallchief of Allegany Reservation, NY; Head Lady Dancer Sarah Tallchief of Allegany Reservation, NY; Head Veteran Dancer Logan Steele of Akron, OH; Whipmen Alec Franklin and Andrew Maybee of Gowanda, NY; Arena Director Matthew Bugelski of Ocale, FL, and Master of Ceremonies Hank Houghtaling of Mercer, PA.
Also scheduled to appear are Host Drum MacKenzie River, Head Singer Dean Hugebeck, and Invited Drums RedBird Singers, Thunder Nation, and Muddy Creek Singers.
Admission is $5.00 for adults, $4.00 for veterans and $3.00 for children ages 5 to 12. Children under the age of five are admitted free of charge.
