After one quarter, things looked bright for the Wolverines as the early score was only 7-0 Central Valley, but…football is a four-quarter sport. You can even say the Wolverines had a decent second half only giving up another 7 points there. However, the second quarter turned out to be the big blow for the Wolverines as 4 scores alone in the quarter put things out of reach by halftime in the resulting 42-7 Central Valley victory on Friday night.
Ellwood City looked to move the ball in the first quarter by mostly rushing the ball. The trenches played rough for both teams, but some drives were established considering. Only one though ended in points – at the 6:45 mark, Danny Santia finished off a great drive with a 6 yard touchdown up the middle making the score 6-0. All PATs on the night were good by Brendan Jugan, making the score 7-0 after one quarter.
Second quarter action was fast-paced and all Santia for the Warriors. CV added a second score quickly after a turnover by the Wolverines making the score 14-0 via Santia from 3 yards out. After the kickoff by the Warriors, the Wolverines did show one more punch on the evening as a 40 yard pass by Shane Reisinger to Andrew O’Brien was the only score on the night for the Wolverines. The PAT was good by Luca Botti as the score read respectively 14-7 mid second.
The scoring play by O’Brien was somewhat of a play of trickery – the Wolverines had a weird formation where two wide receivers were lined up behind each other on both sides of the field. However, O’Brien lined up close the offensive line and was able to slip by the linebackers and defensive backs into the endzone.
From there on out, the Warriors dominated the second quarter adding three more scores – two more by Danny Santia of 5 yards and 37 yards out. The other score of the half was by Jaedon Gordon who returned a 25 yard interception for a touchdown. At halftime the Warriors led 35-7.
The last score of the night came early in the third quarter with the starters still visible on the field. Danny Santia added his last touchdown on the night, his fourth of the game, from 16 yards out. The fourth quarter was that of a blur as the 35-point mercy rule was put into place as the Warriors closed out the game winning 42-7 in the end.

- Rushing – Rick Pitrelli: 13 Carries 52 Yards
- Receiving – Andrew O’Brien: 1 Catch 40 Yards 1 TD
- Defense – Luca Botti: 9 Total Tackles 6 Solo Tackles 1 Pass Broken Up
Stat of the game: TURNOVERS – 5 to 1 in favor of the Warriors as the Wolverines did themselves in by committing mental errors that proved costly to holding onto the ball and finishing drives.
In the end, the result was not in favor of the Wolverines, nor new head coach Nick Hand. However, the Wolverines will regroup for next week as they travel to Hopewell to take on the Vikings (1-1, 0-0) who have played two games and have seemed very shaky to start the season with their win this week being on a last minute touchdown. The Wolverines will look to snap their losing streak while also making strides on the offensive side of the ball.
