CCBC Expands Nursing Program to Washington County

Western Area Career and Technology Center

(Monaca, PA) – Community College of Beaver County (CCBC) has announced the expansion of its associate degree in nursing program to a site in Washington County. The Western Area Career and Technology Center (WACTC), located in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, will serve as a new location for CCBC’s nursing program, providing expanded career opportunities for Washington County practical nursing students interested in advancing as registered nurses.

The inaugural CCBC nursing class will begin in late August as part of CCBC’s fall semester course offerings, and WACTC students will receive preferred placement into the program, but others are encouraged to apply.

“We are very excited to announce our partnership with CCBC in order to offer a direct LPN to associate degree nursing pathway right here in Washington County,” said Justin Trunzo, WACTC’s supervisor of Health Sciences. “This partnership will provide a seamless transition from our LPN program to their RN program.”

CCBC’s associate degree in nursing (ADN) program prepares students to become registered nurses. The curriculum includes general education and nursing courses, as well as clinical laboratory experiences in a variety of local hospitals and health-related agencies. Students successfully completing the program are eligible to take the National Council Licensing Examination (NCLEX-RN) to become registered nurses. Successful completion of the program also provides students a strong foundation to ultimately pursue a baccalaureate degree in nursing at a four-year college or university.

“CCBC’s programs and services are designed to meet a wide spectrum of needs, and feature the flexibility required for a diverse community of learners,” stated Dr. Chris Reber, president. “The addition of a second CCBC associate degree in nursing program site in Washington County will address the critical need for more highly skilled and trained nurses throughout the region.”

To apply, interested individuals should submit an admissions application online at www.ccbc.edu/ApplyOnline by choosing the “Main Application” and then selecting “Washington County Site.” Any previous college, high school and Practical Nursing transcripts, and/or GED documentation may be sent to CCBC’s Information and Registration Center at 1 Campus Drive, Monaca, PA 15061. Questions about enrolling in the LPN to ADN Bridge Program may be directed to CCBC’s Information and Registration Center at 724-480-3504.

“We are excited about the opportunity to partner with our colleagues at the Western Area Career and Technology Center in order to provide additional educational opportunities in the region. We have seen such a demand for this nursing program – given the growing need for skilled nurses both here and throughout the country – that we’ve had to turn away students in the past,” said Dr. Shelly L. Moore, PhD, RN, CNE and dean of CCBC’s School of Nursing and Allied Health. “This Washington County location will enable us to accommodate those students who want to enter this viable, growing field, and will address the vital need for more nurses throughout the larger community.”

A ribbon cutting ceremony will take place on the first day of classes, Monday, August 28, at 5:30 p.m. The press is invited to attend.
