The Ellwood City Color Run was such a hit last year that the organizers, Stacie Hackett and Kim Rangel, decided to do it again this year.
“It was a huge success last year with over 150 runners – everyone was dosed in color having a great time and we raised a lot of money for the cheerleaders,” Hackett stated.
After looking for different fun ways to raise money for the benefit of the Ellwood City Cheerleaders, Hackett noticed how well the color runs did in other communities and thought maybe it would do well in Ellwood too.

“We were looking for other ways to raise money and I knew Pittsburgh does a yearly color run with is always a big hit – so this is kind of like that just on a smaller level.”
The event will take place again in Ewing Park and although it’s called a run, Rangel stressed that it is not a competitive atmosphere.
“Some people ran it, some people walked, some people pushed strollers – it’s not a competition and no one is timing it, it’s purely about having a nice fun day out in the community.”
While each runner is given a packet of color to start, there will be color stations located throughout the designated walkway and at the end there will be a big cloud of color to ensure no one leaves colorless.
Complimentary water and snacks will also be provided.
The duo believe the turnout this year will be just as good – if not better – than last year.
“There were a lot of spectators last year, and I’m hopeful that they will join us this year after witnessing how much fun we had last year,” Rangel stated.
