Paul Zurynski, 89, of Koppel, PA, died peacefully at Allegheny General Hospital on Sunday, June 25, 2017 with his children at his side.
On April 1, 1928, Paul was born in Koppel, PA. He was the son of the late Stanley and Katherine (Gurniak) Zwierzynski. Paul was a long-time member of St. Teresa’s Parish in Koppel (integrated into Holy Redeemer Parish).
One of ten siblings, Paul was born into a strongly family-centered environment, and Paul’s life continually focused on his love for his entire family. Affectionately known as a “Palo” by many of his friends, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Paul worked for Ingrich-Richardson Manufacturing Company in Beaver Falls, and for the Babcock & Wilcox Steel Company. While working full days, he also found time to attend carpentry school. Eventually, after working at the B&W for many years, he retired and devoted his time, energy, and steadfast love to his wife Jane and the rest of his family.
Paul was also a skilled carpenter, an avid hunter and fisherman, and a constant reader. Paul had a distinctive enthusiasm for ingeniously designing and building a variety of different projects – especially for his family members. “Palo” delighted in polka music, socializing with his friends and family members, enjoying trips to Mountaineer Park, and frequently traveling to flea markets and auctions.
Entering the Army Air Force in 1946, Paul served his country as an Army Medic.
A quietly faithful, devoted, and persistent man, Paul followed unyielding Christian principles – principles that guided him through his entire life.
Paul is survived by three children: Lori (Phil) Wimer of Apopka, FL, Paul R. Zurynski of Ohioville, PA, and Joseph D. (Nancy) Zurynski of Wampum, PA; brother, John (Joyce) Zwierzynski of Michigan; sister, Ann Sentak of New Brighton; eight grandchildren: Shannon Hunston, Joni-Ann Pickerl, Jon-Paul Wimer, Kyle Zurynski, Kayla Zurynski, Joseph P. Zurynski, Jacob Zurynski, and Jayne Zurynski; and seven great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 58 years Jane (Watson) Zurynski, six brothers, Joseph, Larry, Stanley (Hoppy), Michael (Ziggy), Richard, and Pete and one sister, Lucy Jadyck.
Friends will be received on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM in the MARSHALL FUNERAL HOME, 341 Main St., Wampum. Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:00 AM at Holy Redeemer Church in Ellwood City officiated by Father Mark Thomas. Entombment will follow at the Assumption Mausoleum at the Holy Redeemer Cemetery. Full Military Rites will be presented by the Veterans Honor Guard.
