The Riverside track team doesn’t show any signs of slowing down – literally.
The Riverside Boys Track and Field Team defeated three other finalists to become the winners of the WPIAL Team Track and Field Championships at Baldwin High School on Monday. The victory is the fourth boys WPIAL team crown since 2007
Riverside picked up the title with wins against Derry Area, Shenango and Freeport. Shenango beat out Derry for second-place due to an overall points tiebreaker.
The Panthers had a couple of key victories in the field events, including Lance Fisher winning the shot put and discus. Sophomore Calvin Weitzel collected a victory in the 300-meter hurdles and finished second in three other events.
Following their winning streak this victory leaves the team at a 93-0 with a section title count up to 14. Some track and field athletes will compete in the individual championships next week.
