Harry D. Herko, 70, of Old Rt 18, Wampum (New Beaver Boro) passed away Sunday, April 16, 2017 at the Butler VA Hospital following a lengthy illness.
Born October 31, 1946 in Ellwood City, he was the son of the late Herman F. and Leona I. Parish Herko. He was married for 22 years to Diana L. Rice Herko who survives.
Harry retired from Babcock and Wilcox, Wallace Run Plant where he was a conductor. He then worked for the American Asbestos Company. Harry served with the Marine Corp during the Vietnam War. He served three tours and received the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry. He was a member of the New Castle American Legion and the Ellwood City Hungarian Home. Harry enjoyed camping, hunting, and fishing, especially at Crystal Lake.
In addition to his wife, Diana, survivors include a son, Harry D. Herko Jr. of Pittsburgh; daughter, Lori (Josh) McWilliams of Butler; sister, Debi Baldwin of Ellwood City; three brothers, Frank Herko of Ellwood City, Chuck (Cindy) Herko of Las Vegas, John Herko of Frederick, MD; four grandchildren and 1 step grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, David Herko.
Visiting hours will be held Tuesday April 18 from 2-4 and 6 until the time of the funeral service at 8 pm at the Marshall Funeral Home 341 Main Street Wampum. Military rites will be conducted by the Veteran Honor Guard.
