Ellwood baseball, Riverside softball both fall behind early in Thursday defeats

Armstrong Captures Lead Early to Defeat Ellwood City Wolverines

Ellwood City Wolverines fell behind early and couldn’t come back in a 10-0 loss to Armstrong on Thursday. Armstrong scored on a single by Michael Lhote and a stolen base in the first inning.

Armstrong captured the lead in the first inning. Michael Lhote drove in one when he singled in the first inning.

Armstrong scored four runs in the third inning. The big inning for Armstrong came thanks to a single by Jacob Parisi, a single by Eli Hickman, and a single by Dawson Porter.

A single by Noah Rinker in the fifth inning was a positive for Ellwood City Wolverines.

Hickman earned the win for Armstrong. He pitched five innings, surrendering zero runs, one hit, striking out one, and walking one. Sean Busby took the loss for Ellwood City Wolverines. He threw one inning, surrendering four runs, six hits, striking out one, and walking zero.

Rinker went 1-for-2 at the plate to lead Ellwood City Wolverines in hits.

Armstrong collected ten hits. Porter, Lhote, and Hickman each collected multiple hits for Armstrong.

 

 

Riverside Panthers Varsity couldn’t keep up with Chartiers-Houston and fell 15-3 on Thursday.

Riverside Panthers Varsity captured the lead in the first inning. Gabby Gretch drove in a run when she walked with the bases loaded.

Chartiers-Houston took the lead for good with seven runs in the second inning. In the second #14 singled off of MaKenzie McElwain, driving in one run, McElwain uncorked a wild pitch, scoring two runs, #24 singled off of McElwain, driving in one run, #4 doubled off of McElwain, driving in two runs, and #18 doubled off of McElwain, driving in one run.

#25 earned the win for Chartiers-Houston. She pitched three and a third innings, giving up two runs, four hits, and striking out two. McElwain took the loss for Riverside Panthers Varsity. She went two and two-thirds innings, giving up 13 runs, 13 hits, and walking zero.

Marissa Gazda, McElwain, Marissa Harper, Emily Smalley, and Camryn Monk all had one hit to lead Riverside Panthers Varsity.

Chartiers-Houston collected 14 hits. #24, #7, #14, #4, #18, and #11 each collected multiple hits for Chartiers-Houston.
