Taylor Petrak, a senior swimmer at Lincoln High School won a double gold medal in her MAC Swim Meet, according to Lincoln High’s Twitter page.
Saturday, Feb. 11,2017 was the MAC Swimming and Diving Championship hosted by Moon High School and directed by West Allegheny’s coach Bob Miller.
“High school swimming is a little bit different than other sports in that you are only permitted to enter two individual events. However, if you are on a team you may also be a member of two relays. We were pleased that Taylor won her two individual events – 200 yard freestyle (1:53.54) and 100 yard backstroke (56.78, just .16 from the MAC record held by Mars swimmer Maggie Gruber set in 2011). She has been working hard under the direction of her Butler YMCA swim head coach Alex Fertelmes. Her next big meet is W.P.I.A.L. Championships at the Univ. of Pitt on March 2nd and 3rd,” her mother and coach, Patti Petrak stated.
Petrak’s swimming skills continue to exceed expectations, her achievements over the last three years include a PIAA State Champion gold medal in the 50 Freestyle in 2015, a silver medal in the 50 Freestyle in 2016, bronze medals in the 100 Freestyle in 2015 and 2016, and a fifth place medal in the 100 Freestyle in 2014. Taylor joined Jake Walker in becoming the second Lincoln High student in school history to become a PIAA State Individual Champion in 2015.
Taylor has added WPIAL Titles with gold medals in the 100 Backstroke in 2014 & 50 Freestyle in 2016. Along with her State Title and WPIAL titles, Taylor set a high school pool record at the MAC Meet and has been a multiple MAC champion and she extended her swimming season beyond the PIAA level by qualifying for the USA Swimming Super Sectional and Futures Championships as well.
Petrak recently signed her letter of intent to swim at Ohio State for the next four years, the full article of this can be found here.
