11 CCBC Student-Athletes Named to WPCC All-Academic Team

6 ACHIEVE HIGH HONORS

 Monaca, PA – Eleven Community College of Beaver County student-athletes earned a place on the Fall 2016 Western Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference (WPCC) All-Academic Team. Six women’s volleyball players and five men’s basketball players were regionally recognized for achieving honors or high honors in the classroom.

“These student-athletes bring integrity and commitment to all they do, both in the classroom and in their respective sports,” commented John Ashaolu, Director of Athletics and Student Programs. “Our mission is to educate and help our student-athletes grow and we are proud of their accomplishments.”

To be eligible for the award, the student-athletes must have participated in a fall sport (women’s volleyball or men’s basketball at CCBC), and be a full-time student enrolled in 12 or more credit hours. To earn the honor award, student-athletes must achieve a 3.0 to 3.49 GPA for the semester. To earn the high honors award, student athletes must achieve a 3.5 GPA or higher for the semester.

For women’s volleyball, Marisa Adams, an education major from Industry, achieved honors; Aishah Coley, a specialized studies major from Ellwood City, achieved high honors; Madison Padgett, an air traffic control major from Ambridge, achieved honors; Lauren Ranone, a specialized studies major from Industry, achieved high honors; Jessica Straub, a nursing major from Beaver Falls, achieved high honors; and Haley Zink, a nursing major from Ellport, achieved high honors.

For men’s basketball, Aaron Barlow, a specialized studies major from Midland, achieved honors; Nick Barney, a business administration major from Midland, achieved honors; Zavyer Craft, a business administration major from Midland, achieved high honors; Michael Homza, a criminal justice major from Monaca, achieved high honors; and Anthony Wilson, a psychology major from Monaca, achieved honors.

Through the program, student-athletes are recognized for their academic achievements in addition to successes on the field or court.

CCBC currently offers women’s volleyball, women’s softball, and men’s basketball. The College has recently started to recruit for three new additional sports including women’s basketball and women’s and men’s cross country that will begin this fall.

The Student Athlete Retention Program, a collaboration of CCBC’s Offices of Counseling, Academic Affairs, and the Athletics, offers counseling services, workshops, mentoring, tutoring, educational planning, and progress report monitoring.
