Many Pennsylvanians long for the option to buy alcohol at grocery stores – an ability that many other states allow.
Luckily for those wishful Pennsylvania residents, in the beginning of August the new permit to sell wine to-go became available in Pennsylvania due to the Wolf Administration, and since then the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board has been issuing store license approvals across the state.
“The Wolf Administration’s goal has always been to improve the customer experience, make pricing more competitive, make the purchase of products more convenient, and bring more revenue into the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania,” as quoted by Governor Wolf’s website.
Although the license only allows stores to sell wine, Lawrence County residents now have the chance to utilize the slowly changing alcohol laws.
Shop n’ Save in New Castle is the first store in Lawrence County to obtain a wine license, which allows the store to stock and sell hundreds of different wine varieties, available for purchase during store hours – not the limited state regulated hours.
There are rules and regulations the shop has to follow in order to keep the wine license; they must sell prepared food in a restaurant-like manner and they can only sell up to three liters of wine per customer.
A few other stores throughout the county plan on obtaining a wine license, including some local Giant Eagles.
