When people think of talent and fame, they often think of Hollywood -not so much Ellwood, but one Ellwood resident is unexpectedly changing that view.
With just over two decades of dedication put towards performing arts, Jamie Hulick a native Ellwoodian, was recently asked by a contestant on The Voice to be featured on his newly published Christmas album.
Hulick is a 27 year old who has been singing since she was a child. She attended Lincoln Park High School in her senior year, specifically for performing arts, and after graduation she moved to Florida to work as a performer at Disney. She furthered her performing education, graduating with a certificate from AMDA in Los Angeles. After finishing her performing arts education, she returned home to Ellwood so she could study business at Slippery Rock while she performed and sang on the side.
Hulick met Chris Jamison through her church after she was asked to sing for their Easter worship service, and unexpectedly Jamison was also on the list of names to be singing at the service. As a viewer of The Voice, she immediately recognized the name and could not believe she was going to be seeing him in person -let alone have the opportunity to sing with him.
“My family and I loved him on The Voice, and I knew he was from Pittsburgh, but I was so excited to see him on the church stage,” she said.
Jamison was featured as a contestant on The Voice’s season seven as part of Adam Levine’s team. He came in third place on the season and has over 22 million views on one song uploaded to Youtube that he sang with another Pittsburgh local, Wiz Khalifa.
“I showed up to the first rehearsal for Easter, nervous as ever but excited for the opportunity to meet Chris. When he walked through the door, he introduced himself and actually gave me a compliment on my singing,” Hulick recalls about her first time face to face with the singer.
Hulick said the rest is history; the two stayed in contact and a few weeks ago he requested her to be featured in a song on his Christmas album.
The song is Baby It’s Cold Outside and can be heard for free on Youtube; it is also available for download, along with the rest of the singles on the album, via Chris’s iTunes channel.
“I’m so grateful for the opportunity to sing with Chris, let alone to be featured on his album. I know he will make it big in the industry,” Hulick appreciated.
Hulick is hopeful this is just the beginning of her music career as she is now planning to pursue music seriously by writing and performing her own songs.
The pair will be singing together again, this time for the church’s Christmas program. For more information on it, click here.
