Taylor Petrak, a senior swimmer at Lincoln High School, signed her letter of intent today at the high school in the presence of her parents, Patti and Jay Petrak, after she was offered an athletic scholarship by Ohio State University. The intent stated Petrak will be swimming for Ohio State University over the next four years while she attends college there.
Taylor visited several colleges before choosing Ohio State, and she said she’s completely confident and excited with her decision to sign with them.
“The other colleges were amazing and they had a lot to offer as well, but speaking from a parental point of view, I saw a pep in her walk when we visited Ohio State and we knew it was the one,” Taylor’s mother commented about her daughters choice.
Taylor’s achievements over the last three years include a PIAA State Champion gold medal in the 50 Freestyle in 2015, a silver medal in the 50 Freestyle in 2016, bronze medals in the 100 Freestyle in 2015 and 2016, and a fifth place medal in the 100 Freestyle in 2014. Taylor joined Jake Walker in becoming the second Lincoln High student in school history to become a PIAA State Individual Champion in 2015. She now has a total of five PIAA State Championship Medals with her senior year still remaining.
Taylor has added WPIAL Titles with gold medals in the 100 Backstroke in 2014 & 50 Freestyle in 2016. Along with her State Title and WPIAL titles, Taylor set a high school pool record at the MAC Meet and has been a multiple MAC champion and she extended her swimming season beyond the PIAA level by qualifying for the USA Swimming Super Sectional and Futures Championships as well. Taylor has qualified for the 2016 Speedo Winter Junior Championships scheduled to take place in Columbus, Ohio, this December.
In edition to her swimming achievements, she has also succeeded on the track during her high school career by qualifying for the PIAA Track and Field State Championships in 2015 and 2016. Not only has Taylor excelled at the highest levels in her sports, she has managed to maintain a 4.0 grade point average during her high school career and she is a member of the National Honor Society.
At this time, Taylor is uncertain what she will declare as her major at Ohio State, but she is considering the possibility of becoming a [currently unspecified] type of engineer.
