Portersville Christian School presents Neil Simon’s “Fools! A Comic Fable” directed by Ryan Wise.
The synopsis of the play:
Sometime in the 19th century, in the small Ukrainian village of Kulyenchikov, we meet Leon Tolchinsky- a freshly minted young school teacher who has come to Kulyenchikov to teach the daughter of the local doctor. What Tolchinsky does not know is that this village has been under a curse for the past 200 years, and as a result, every person in Kulyenchikov is stupid. When he learns of the curse, Tolchinsky makes up his mind to get out of there as quickly as possible- until he meets his student, Sophia Zubritsky, and falls immediately in love with her. The problem is that he only has one day to break the curse before he, too, is cursed with eternal stupidity.
This comic fable by Neil Simon is simple and silly on its surface, but underneath says much about the nature of power, the purpose of education, and the way that we often simply accept what we are told about ourselves.
The cast is Danny Schlacheter as Leon, Caleb Yauger as Snetsky, Jeffrey McMahon as Magistrate, Leah Hoffer as Solvitch, Elijah White as Mishkin, Weslie Ann Fischer as Yenchna, Austin Patterson as Dr. Zubritsky, Hope Merrill as Lenya Zubritsky, Alexis Konar as Sophia Zubritsky, and Drew Ramsey as Gregor Yousekevitch.
The play will be November 10, 11, and 12 starting at 7p.m.
Adult tickets are $10, student tickets are $8, and children 5 and under are free. To reserve tickets call 724-368-8787
