Donald Loyal Hockenberry, 88

Donald  Loyal  Hockenberry,  88, of  Harpers Ferry Road, Ellwood City (North Sewickley Twp), passed away peacefully at his home on  Thursday  morning, September 29 2016.

He was born in Frisco (Franklin Twp, Beaver Co.) on January 16 1928 to the late Loyal E. and Ethel G. McCartney Hockenberry.

He attended Lincoln  High School in Ellwood City,  and was employed as a union carpenter for many years, working mainly from the New Brighton Carpenters Local 422, later 922.   As a union steward, he worked with Dick Corporation and helped build the Shippingport Nuclear Power plant, Beaver Valley Mall, and several other commercial projects.

He served in the US Army in Korea from 1946-1947.

He enjoyed woodworking, and even built his own home in North Sewickley.

Don  also enjoyed  boating,  gardening, and camping, but most of all he enjoyed his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He married his late wife, Donna J. Majors Hockenberry on April 22 1950.     They were married for almost 65 years before she passed away on March 19 2015.

He is survived by three children:  Bruce Hockenberry;    and   Bonnie (and Herbert) Cratty, all of Ellwood City;  and Beth (and David) Meteney of North Sewickley.

Two grandchildren,  Brittany (and Travis) Bates;  and Cameron  Little, as well as three great grandchildren,  Jason and Derek Little, and Mariah Bates also survive.

One brother and two sisters also survive:  Carl E. Hockenberry of Ellwood City;  DeVonna (and James) Anderson of Prospect PA;  and Shirley Ditmer of Warren OH.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers:  William E. Hockenberry; Rev. Kenneth Hockenberry; and Gerald  “Red” Hockenberry.

Friends will be received from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M.  on Saturday, October 1, 2016 in the TURNER FUNERAL HOME,  500 Sixth Street, Ellwood City.

Services will be conducted on Saturday evening, Oct.1, at 7:00 P.M., at TURNERS with his nephew,  Pastor  Daniel Hockenberry of the Disciples of Christ Church in Brookfield, OH, officiating.

Burial will  be in Locust Grove Cemetery.
