11 Year Old Riverside Student Sings National Anthem at Pirates Game on Tuesday

Alexa Speicher, an 11 year old student at Riverside, sang the national anthem at the Pirates game Tuesday night.

Alexa’s mother, Tanya, said that when Alexa was about four years old she started showing a particular interest in singing- specifically the national anthem, after she witnessed the song being sung at a sporting event. Ever since then, Alexa has been taking singing lessons and has dedicated most of her free time to performing arts and singing the national anthem at local high school and college sporting events.

Speicher is a performer, not only does she sing but she plays instruments as well. She is a singer and a guitarist for the locally performing band, In Harmony, and she writes and records her own songs; her song “Rescued” is available for download on iTunes.

Speicher was given the opportunity to sing at the Pirates game after someone heard her sing at an event and put her in contact with the managers of PNC Park.

We asked her if she gets nervous singing in front of such a large crowd, her response was “not really- and if I feel myself getting nervous I just take a deep breath and tell myself I’m going to do great.”

Alexa said she has a wonderful support system, not only does her family encourage her, but her music teachers at school are extremely supportive and always take the necessary steps to guide her in the right direction.

This is the second time Speicher has performed at a Pirates game; she performed during a game last year and is hoping to perform again next year.

The video of her singing will be posted in a few weeks after it becomes available, however if you can’t wait to hear her sing, In Harmony will be performing on October 9 at The Strand Theater in Zelienople.
