Gladys M. Parker, 95, of Old Rt. 18, Wampum passed away Monday, September 5, 2016 at the Ellwood City Hospital following a brief illness.
Born October 3, 1920 in Wampum, she was the daughter of the late Charles Herman and Nina James Hall. She was married in April of 1942 to Leroy S. Parker who passed away in 1971.
Gladys graduated as the valedictorian of the Class of 1938 at Wampum High School. While in high school she was a member of the basketball team. Gladys was the oldest member of the Wampum United Methodist Church and also a member of the Wampum American Legion Auxiliary. She worked for many years at Al’s Market, Isaly’s, and Leonetti’s Market in Wampum. She also worked for many years on the New Beaver Boro Board of Elections and cleaned houses for many area residents. Gladys loved gardening, building puzzles, doing word and crossword puzzles, making latch hook rugs and spending time with her family.
Survivors include two sons, Thomas (Virginia) Parker and Charles Parker, both of Wampum; daughter, Linda Villene of Phoenix, AZ; sister, Esther Hall of Newport, NC; four grandchildren, Laurie (John) Mraulak of East Palestine, OH, Karen (Bill) Matheny of Fombell, Leslie (Dennis) Lanning and Mandy DeCiancio, both of Phoenix; and nine great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by parents, husband, and three sisters, Naomi Hartzell, Elaine Melnick, Katherine Jenkins, and a brother, Lawrence Hall.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday September 9 from 2 until the time of the funeral service at 4 pm at the Marshall Funeral Home 341 Main Street Wampum. Her pastor, Rev. Todd Davis will officiate. Interment will follow in Clinton Cemetery.
