Doris L. (Loveable) Steele, 85 passed to be with her lord and savior peacefully at Butler Memorial Hospital surrounded and embraced by loving family and friends after a valiant battle with heart related issues. Despite the adversity of the final weeks, Doris was spreading happiness and appreciation to various doctors and nurses; their smiles and positive comments were proof.
Doris is survived by her youngest son Grant Steele, middle son Blake Steele and his wife Frances, granddaughters Callie & Alena Steele and daughter in law Mary Ann Steele. Doris is also survived by her younger sister Donna Wilson.
Doris was preceded in death last September by her husband of 66 years Bill Steele. Also preceding Doris was eldest son Doug Steele, father and mother Dallas & Verna Weingartner Houk, brothers Kenneth and Russell Houk and sisters Marjorie Watson and Viola Richards.
Doris was dedicated to her family throughout her life, dear friend to so many across generations that only Doris and the Lord would be able to list them all. Doris was a devoted and active lifetime member of Slippery Rock Presbyterian Church and was active in its Naomi Circle. Doris also worked in the Lawrence County Commissioners’ office for 27 years where she regularly spread happiness to coworkers and visitors; she was also described as the “merry prankster” at work and was known as the person responsible to “break in” each new board of County Commissioners. Many close friends still called and visited from those courthouse days despite Doris retiring over 20 years ago.
In addition to her outstanding personality and professional talents Doris was a great homemaker, among too many talents to list she was well known for her various pies, all with crusts made from scratch.
Doris was a blessing to all. Family and friends will be received on Friday July 1 from 2 to 4 at the Slippery Rock Presbyterian Church with the service following with her pastor, Rev. Julia Williamson officiating.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the Slippery Rock Presbyterian Church.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Marshal Funeral Home, Ellwood City. Online condolences may be sent to marshallsfh.com.
