Activities taking place at the Ellwood City Area Public Library include the following:
Monday, June 13, at 10:00 a.m. — “Coloring for Adults,” a weekly program that is free and open to the public. “Coloring for Adults” is a new concept in helping to reduce the stresses of everyday life. During the months of June and July, these sessions will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Mondays instead of Wednesdays because of the library’s Summer Reading Program activities. Tuesday, June 14, at 10:00 a.m. – “Jump Start to Kindergarten,” a five-week program designed for children entering kindergarten in the fall. Featured are stories, activities, games and more centering on the theme of kindergarten readiness. Registration is required so call the library now for more information.
Tuesday, June 14, at 6:30 p.m. — “Family Laptime,” an interactive program designed for babies as young as 6 months old through preschool age. Featured are stories, songs, finger plays and more. The summer session runs for six weeks, so call now for more information or to register. Another session of Family Laptime will be held in the fall.
Wednesday, June 15, at 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. – Weekly Summer Reading Programs for children who have completed kindergarten through 3rd grade. Youngsters in kindergarten and 1st grade will meet at 10:00 a.m. and those in 2nd and 3rd grades will meet at 11:00 a.m. Featured are stories, activities, games and much more. Wednesday, June 15, at 12:00 Noon – “Just 4 Girls,” a book discussion group for girls in 9th grade and up. The group will discuss the book, “My Life Next Door,” by Huntley Fitzpatrick. Call the library for more information.
Thursday, June 16, at 10:00 a.m. – “Puppet Theater Workshop” for students in 4th grade and up. Using marionettes and puppets, the participants spend the summer rehearsing original plays, some of which will be written by teen student directors. Then at the end of the summer, the group performs these plays to family members, friends and children participating in other programs over the summer. Registration is required, so call the library now for more information.
Thursday, June 16, at 12:00 Noon – “Bookworms,” a book discussion group for students who have just completed 4th or 5th grades. The group will discuss the book, “Chomp,” by Carl Hiaasen. Call the library for more information.
Thursday, June 16, at 6:00 p.m. – Adult Knitting Group. This group meets year-around to work on individual projects and socialize with others who love knitting. Members provide their own materials. New members are always welcome, so call the library now for more information.
Flyers are available at the library detailing all the Summer Reading Programs available. Registration is required for most of the programs, so call the library now to take part in a “summer of fun” at the library.
“Movie Nights for Adults,” will be held monthly through the end of the year. Featured are new-to-DVD films. These evenings are open to all area adults free of charge. The next movie is scheduled for Wednesday, June 29, at 6:00 p.m. Join us for a movie and refreshments! Call the library for more information or to discover the titles of the movies to be shown.
