Wolves Club 2016 Scholarships

Through the years, the Ellwood City Wolves Club, established in 1948, has awarded well over $200,000 in scholarships to Lincoln and Riverside high school seniors.

President Mike DeOtto said that “Our Ellwood City Wolves Club members are proud to continue their long history of presenting educational scholarships and grants to area high school seniors,” President Mike DeOtto said.

The awards were presented during the club’s annual scholarship dinner at the Connoquenessing Country Club on May 25. Riverside High School senior Shanna Ridgley was announced as the $4,000 winner. She is a daughter of Dan and Sherri Ridgley and plans to attend the University of Pittsburgh and major in pre-dentistry.

Three $1,000 scholarships were given to Lincoln seniors Cayla Sudano and Alena Costulas and to Riverside senior Emma French. Half of the $1,000 Alena Costulas scholarship award was funded by the Tony J. Celli Family in memory of Mary Ann Celli.

Cayla is a daughter of Renee and Robert Sudano and plans to attend the University of Pittsburgh and major in biology and pre-med. Alena is a daughter of Mike and Margie Costulas and will attend the University of Pittsburgh, where she will major in biology. Emma is a daughter of Michael and Charlotte French, and she intends to major in nursing at the Community College of Beaver County.

The remaining three $500 scholarships were awarded to Goldiann Bookamer, Judith Paige Mason and Brittany Taylor. Goldiann and Judith are Lincoln High School seniors. Brittany is a Riverside High School senior.

Goldiann is a daughter of Vickie and Gary Bookamer and plans to attend Duquesne University to major in forensic science and law. Judith is a daughter of Linda and Michael Mason, and her plans include attending Clarion University and majoring in biology and physical therapy. Brittany is a daughter of Carl and Deborah Taylor and will attend the Community College of Beaver County and major in nursing.

An “appreciation tribute” on behalf of the Wolves Club, was offered by scholarship chairman Denny Boariu to the Anthony and Helen Celli Family, the Mary Ann Celli Family, and the Petti Family with a “special well done” to Herman Petti Jr. for their contributions to the scholarship and grant program.

On hand to present the awards to Lincoln High School students was April Thellman, a Lincoln High School guidance counselor. Presenting awards to the Riverside High School students was Ben Huth, a Riverside High School guidance counselor.

Members of the club’s scholarship committee are chairman Denny Boariu, Dr. Alfonso Angelucci, Fred Altsman, Matt Walley Don Costa and Herman Petti Jr.
Denny Boariu was the Master of ceremonies, Father Zachary Galiyas, Parochial Vicar of Holy Redeemer Parish, gave the invocation and benediction.
