The Lady Wolverines traveled to Shaler on Thursday afternoon and took one on the chin. Shaler put up 10 runs in just five innings as the game was halted by the mercy rule.
Walks and untimely errors proved to be the young team’s undoing as Shaler managed just five hits. The Wolverines mustered just three hits themselves as Shaler’s defense was dazzling.
The normally sure-handed defense committed an uncharacteristic three errors and Shaler also benefited from 13 walks.
Maria Ioanilli led the hitters with a line shot double into the left centerfield gap. Sydni Haswell and Zoe Maine each had singles.
Ioanilli was strong defensively as well throwing out a runner attempting to steal second in the third inning. Right Fielder Sarah Boots made a terrific running catch on a line drive to end the fourth inning.
Madi Krugh took the loss as she struck out four and walked 13 in five innings of work.
The team will look to get their first win of the season on Monday as North Hills comes to Stiefel Park for a 6 p.m. start.
