Warren Austin Michaels, 91, of Marion Township, Ellwood City, passed away peacefully on Sunday afternoon, March 27, 2016 in Golden Hill Nursing Home in New Castle following a brief illness.
He was born in Ellwood City on July 6, 1924 to the late Lewis Michaels and the late Cora Miller Michaels. He graduated from Lincoln High School in the class of 1943 and served in the U.S. Navy in WWII. He married his wife of over 65 years, Veda Mae Snyder Michaels, on Dec. 8, 1950, who survives. Warren worked as a saw operator and machinist at the Ellwood City Forge for 37 years until retiring in 1989. He also helped his son at Snyder saw Service in Ellwood City.
He was a member of Wiley Hill Baptist Church where he was an usher and taught Sunday School. He enjoyed walking in nature, fishing, gardening and reading.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Anthony Funari, on November 26, 2011.
He is survived by his wife, Veda Mae Snyder Michaels, and two sons and a daughter: Gary Michaels, Ronald (and Kim) Michaels, and Bonnie Michaels Funari. Two grandchildren, Seth (and Melissa) Michaels and Amanda Funari, also survive, as well as three great-grandchildren, Makenzie, Connor, and Austin, and his sister, Vesta Taylor.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 30, 2016 in the Turner Funeral Home of Ellwood City, Sixth Street at Park Avenue. Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 31, 2016 with the Rev. Thomas Betlyn, of Wiley Hill Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Locust Grove Cemetery, North Sewickley Township. Memorial contributions may be made, in Warren’s name, to Wiley Hill Baptist Church, 1785 Windover Avenue, Ellwood City PA 16117.
