Chauncey Jack Forbush, 93, of Shenango Township, went to be with the Lord on Palm Sunday morning, March 20, 2016 following a brief illness.
He was born on Clover Avenue in Ellwood City on Sept. 30, 1922 to the late Arthur Norman Forbush and the late Mary C. Sowers Forbush. Chauncey graduated from Lincoln High School in the class of 1941 and married his wife of 72 years, Ella Mae Ort Forbush, on Feb. 18, 1944, who survives. He worked for the former National Tube Company Ellwood Works both before and after serving in the U.S. Army in WWII. In 1950, he became the founder and co-owner of Forbush Drive-In with his wife and father until retiring in 1984. He was a lifelong hunter and enjoyed spending time at the family camp in Marienville, Pa. In retirement, Mr. Forbush enjoyed attending auctions and traveling with his wife. He had been a longtime, devoted member of Castlewood Alliance Church since joining in 1954.
The last of his family, he was preceded in death, in addition to his parents, by his brother and two sisters: Gordon H. Forbush, Mary Ellen Kistner, and Thelma R. Krepps.
In addition to his wife, Ella Mae Ort Forbush, Chauncey is survived by two daughters: Janet L. (and the Rev. Jerry W.) Zuvers of Portage, Pa. and Patricia R. (and Dr. Steven P.) Wilson of New Castle. Two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren also survive, as well as his sister-in-law, Lousie O. Forbush of Jacobus, PA, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 22, 2016 in the Turner Funeral Home of Ellwood City, Sixth Street at Park Avenue.
Friends may also call from 10 a.m. until the time of a Celebration of Life service at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at Turner’s with the Rev. Jerry W. Zuvers, the Rev. Charles L. Fombelle, and the Rev. James R. O’Hara officiating.
Interment will follow in North Sewickley Cemetery, North Sewickley Township.
Members of the Veterans Honor Guard are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:45 a.m. on the day of the service to conduct full military rites.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made, in Mr. Forbush’s name, to the Castlewood Alliance Church, 660 Harmony Baptist Road, New Castle, PA 16101.
