Lorna Victoria Bailey Poindexter

Lorna Victoria Bailey Poindexter, 52, of Ellwood City, left this earthly realm on Dec. 15, 2015, at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh.

She was born on Oct. 30, 1963, and was raised in Ellwood City, daughter of the late Andrew F. and Frances Lopez Bailey. Lorna was a graduate of Riverside High School and the University of Science and Arts in Chickasha, Okla. She employed as an elementary schoolteacher by the Rochester School District for the last 15 years. She sold Mary Kay cosmetics and Parklane jewelry. She was a longtime active member of Love Hope Baptist Church where she helped with clerical work.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Andrea Bailey, in infancy, and Sarah G. Stone.

She is survived by her husband, Merce Poindexter; her children, Merce Poindexter II, of Tallahassee, Fla., and Frances Poindexter of Cleveland, Oh.; her brother, Andrew R. Bailey of Tok, Ark.; her sister, Rev. Cheryle P. Stone of Monroeville, Pa.; and Yvonne I. Goatley, who has been closer than a sister. She is also survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was loved by many a host of students, coworkers, and friends.

Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 18, 2015, at Love Hope Baptist Church, 400 Wayne Ave., Ellwood City, PA 16117.

Friends may also call from 10 a.m. until the time of the Homegoing service at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 19, 2015, at Love Hope Baptist Church with Rev. James Johnson, her pastor, officiating.

Interment will follow in Grandview Cemetery, Beaver Falls. Memorial contributions may be made to the family in care of the funeral home to help defray funeral costs or to the Love Hope Baptist Church.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Turner Funeral Home of Ellwood City, Sixth Street at Park Avenue.
