Rosella M. Shaffer Smith, 96, of Ellwood City, formerly of Wampum passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2015 at UPMC Passavant Hospital surrounded by family following a brief illness.
Born May 3, 1919 in Ellwood City, she was the daughter of the late Robert Herring and Mary Jane McCauley Herring .
Rosella was a homemaker and also a retired custodian from the Riverside Area School District. She enjoyed playing bingo, crocheting and reading. She cherished time spent with her family and her dogs.
Survivors include a daughter, Carol (Greg) Wood of Wexford; five grandchildren, Erin Wood, Justin (Jamie) Wood, Colby (Tonya) Wood, Jodi (John) Biedka, Joyce (Michael) Myers; eleven great-grandchildren, Sean, Jason and Matthew Myers, Charlie Kaufman, Michael Savage, Addison, Caiden and Ian Wood, Amanda Kelly, Amber and Stephen Biedka; and five great-great-grandchildren, Dahlia Myers, Austin and Jayne Kaufman, Viridianna Savage, and Serenity Johnson
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 27 years, Russell Shaffer, son, William Lee Shaffer and a granddaughter, Lee Ann Shaffer.
Visiting hours will be held on Saturday, Nov. 28 from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. at the Marshall Funeral Home 341 Main St. Wampum. Pastor Tom O’Brien of the First Christian Church will officiate. Interment will follow in Locust Grove Cemetery.
