Mark your calendars! This Thursday at 6 p.m. is Wampum’s Light Up the Town and on Saturday at 1 p.m., the Wampum Area Christmas Parade makes its 43rd march through the town.
Light Up the Town – Attendees will enjoy how Wampum has yet again reinvented their “Light Up the Town” with the addition of a 15 minute pyrotechnic display donated by a longtime Wampum supporters Mimi and Jerry Davis. Another addition is Face Painting at the recently renovated historic Wampum Station as well as a chainsaw wood carver who will be carving a figure throughout the night. The long time tradition of horse and carriage rides through the luminaries-lined streets continues and while waiting for your turn on the carriage ride, you can enjoy live music performed by Noble Cause. Back by popular demand are the Northside Kindergarten Carolers, Dance Expressions, Diamond Dance and the Cloggers.
Wampum Area Christmas Parade – The best little parade in Western Pennsylvania will start off at 1 p.m. with confetti cannons, children coaxing the candy from numerous piñatas throughout the parade route and The Pittsburgh Steeline Band drumming up anair of excitement. The 2015 Parade line includes Iceburgh the Pittsburgh Penguin mascot, the Shriners, Sweet Frog mascots, Super Heroes (worn by the guys from Wampum Fitness who need no artificial muscle padding!), The Muppets, Ninja Turtles, Minions and many more costumed characters. Lifelong Wampum resident Dale Brown, the honored Parade Marshal, will be lead the many floats, bands, dance groups, veterans, Honor Guards and area fire departments. Once again, The Lawrence County Court of Common Pleas Board of Judges will step away from their gavel to judge the floats. Of course Santa and Mrs. Clause will be arriving in Wampum on their floats and will go directly to the gymnasium to hand out treat bags to kids who have been registered in advance.
