Jean Hampe, 94

Jean Hampe, 94, of Third Ave., New Brighton passed away the morning of Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2015 at Northview Estates in Ellwood City.

Born Oct. 22, 1920 in Sagamore, Pa., she was the daughter of the late George and Mayme Rowland Nolf. Jean grew up in the Plumville, Smicksburg Pa. area, where she enjoyed helping her father on their small family farm.

Jean married Lawrence Wingard in 1939 and they moved to the Ellwood City area in 1950, with their two daughters. After her husbands death in 1960, Jean became the Wayne Township School Cafeteria Manager and later owned and managed the Wingard Retirement Home on Route 65 Beaver Falls. She later married Gus Hampe who passed away in Oct. 1980. Jean enjoyed her family and traveling. She was a long time member of the local AARP and went of many excursions with the group as assistant tour director. A member of the Harmony Baptist Church, she belonged to the missionary society, helping to make many beautiful quilts.

Survivors include daughter, Joyce (William) Bingle of Beaver Falls; step son, Gus R. (Judy) Hampe of Aliquippa; nine grandchildren, David, Doug and Dan Wawrzynski, Dawn Tabin, Jeannie Ball, Bill Bingle, Rob Hampe, Lisa Miller and Sherry Grady; 16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-granddaughters.

She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Connie Wawrzynski, son in law, Gerald Wawrzynski and her sister, Janet Warren.

Family and friends will be received on Saturday, Oct. 24 from 2 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 4 p.m. at the Marshall Funeral Home, 200 Fountain Ave. Ellwood City. Rev. William R. McGary will officiate the services. Interment will follow in the Harmony Baptist Cemetery.
