The coffee shop wait in Ellwood City is finally over. National Grind, located at 400 Lawrence Ave., will be opening their new doors this weekend as a part of their Grand Opening. As of today, Bob Rivers begins his very first business venture of his lifetime.
The shop will mark the first coffee shop and business ever for the twenty-four year old. Don’t let that fool you, Rivers has been in the hospitality industry for the past ten years. From dishwasher to bartender to sous chef, he has truly done it all. Rivers will soon be able to add barista to his long list of experience.
How does a man from Jefferson in Ashtabula County in Ohio end up in little old Ellwood City? River’s girlfriend, Jackie Yarzebinski, is an Ellwood City native. He saw the town as a great opportunity to start his business with lots of help and support from the community.
“Being from outside Ellwood,” Rivers said, “I can really see a lot of potential here. This is a great stepping stone for me start.”
National Grind will serve a variety of items for very reasonable prices. Coffee, tea, cappuccino, latte, espresso, lemonade and baked goods are among the many items that will appear on the menu. Rivers will be focusing on healthier alternatives like berry teas rather than the typical fat-filled frappes.
He says there are a lot of misconceptions about coffee shops and wants people to know he won’t just be serving coffee. There will definitely be something for everyone in the trendy and contemporary shop. Right now, the most expensive item on the menu is a large latte for $4.25, and if you know coffee, that’s cheap!
“This is going to be something Ellwood’s never experienced before,” Rivers went on. “I want to make a perfect cup of fresh roast coffee and give customers the best coffee experience they’ve ever had.”
For this weekend, National Grind will be open Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 7a.m. to 7 p.m. Normal hours will be Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, 7 a.m. to around 4 p.m. and Thursday, Friday and Saturday, 7 a.m. to around 7 p.m. The hours are subject to change based on customer’s needs and with the season change.
After a year and a half of work, Rivers couldn’t be more excited to finally open his business. Eventually he plans to host Open Mic and Game Nights in the shop. He wants people to have somewhere to come hangout in Ellwood with something different to do at night.
This new, fresh-brewing coffee joint is sure to stir up Ellwood City and fulfill the town’s coffee shop dreams. For questions or more information, contact Bob Rivers at 412-860-0752. You can also swing by National Grind and try a cup of joe out for yourself!
