Jameson Heath System’s Emergency Department has been ranked in the top 5 percent in the nation for emergency medicine excellence, receiving the 2011 Emergency Medicine Excellence Award.
An analysis of emergency room data from 2006 to 2008 was conducted in April by HealthGrades, the nation’s leading independent source of physician information and hospital quality ratings.
The study looked specifically at the mortality rates of over 4,900 hospitals across the country. It showed Jameson hospital within a group of only 255 hospitals (5 percent) with a notably low mortality rate in emergency rooms.
Only 11 hospitals in all of Pennsylvania were honored with the Emergency Medicine Excellence Award.
This particular study focused on 12 of the most common and life-threatening medical emergencies among the Medicare patient population including heart attack, stroke, pneumonia and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
Hospitals performing in the top 5 percent in the nation for emergency room quality outcomes and performance were designated as an Emergency Medicine Excellence Award hospital.
According to Jameson’s website, their team of Board Certified Emergency Medicine physicians, ER nurses, and technologists serve as the primary ER for Lawrence County, and saw approximately 37,600 patients in the fiscal year of 2010.
Other area hospitals honored with this award were The Western Pennsylvania Hospital in Monroeville, UPMC McKeesport, and Saint Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown, Ohio.
Jameson was also ranked in the 99th percentile out of 1,759 hospitals nationwide for patient satisfaction and experience ratings for their Maternity Care Center.
Last year, Jameson hospital had exactly 500 births delivered at the Maternity Care Center. And, making the experience exciting for all, each time a baby is born, the “Lullaby” song is played throughout the hospital.
“The doctors, nurses, and staff make the experience wonderful by informing the mothers and making them feel safe at all times,” Madeline Melidona, the unit’s Patient Care Manager, said. “I am grateful to work with such a wonderful group of individuals.”
