Local Women Suffers Identity Theft On Monday October 15 at 12:00 p.m., a local women reported that she was sent a $304.60 phone bill from Verizon Wireless for two cell phone lines she had not opened. When contacted, Verizon refused to release who opened the accounts, how they did it, and the mailing address where the two phones had been sent to. No suspect names have been released. Mrs. Angeline M. “Angie” Varrato, 99, of Ellport passed away on Tuesday, October 2, 2018 at the Ellwood City Medical Center. Mrs. Varrato was born on December 25, 1918 in Altoona, Pa to the late Antonio D. and Marie (Lombardi) Carmosino. She had graduated from the Altoona High School in 1938 and then from Mary Hammond’s Beauty School in Altoona. Angie worked as a self employed beautician for 10 years in Altoona before moving to Ellwood City in 1950. In 1957 she opened Angeline’s Beauty Shop in Ellwood City. Beaver County Chemical Recycling Event Planned

On Saturday, October 13, Bradys Run Park Recycling Center will have common household chemical recycling. Recycling will go on from 9:00 a.m to 1:00 p.m. There will be a cash only fee of $3.00 per gallon, a few exceptions apply. The list of acceptable items include: aerosol cans, batteries, camp fuel/small propane bottles, chemistry sets, compact fluorescent bulbs (CFLs), gasoline, kerosene, mercury, paint products, photo chemicals, pool chemicals, motor oil, transmission fluid, antifreeze, and brake fluid. Historical Society Fall Meeting A Success – Rain And All

Everyone was welcomed to the first Fall meeting of the Ellwood City Area Historical Society.  Approximately 70 people attended the dinner which, because of the weather, was moved from Ewing Park to Calvin Presbyterian Church.  Following the invocation by Charles Brown everyone enjoyed a “picnic” dinner prepared by Nico’s Restaurant. Borough Announces Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program

The Borough of Ellwood City announced last week details of their annual Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) for borough residents.  The program will begin on Thursday, November 1, 2018 and end the first of April 2019. Individuals receiving assistance last year will be getting information from LIHEAP in the mail. Jean M. Hartzel  Duncan, 73, of Ellwood City (North Sewickley), passed away peacefully on Tuesday evening, September 18  2018 in the emergency department at the Ellwood City Medical Center. She was born in Ellwood City  on April 29 1945 to the late Harvey William Hartzel and the late Marie Minett Hartzel. Jean was a beautician, and worked for many years at Especially for You salon. Joseph Stefura, 83, of Wampum passed away Monday, September 17, 2018 at the Ellwood City Medical Center following a brief illness. Born October 11, 1934 in Koppel, he was the son of the late John and Sophia Kwasnicki Stefura Sr. He was married to Patty Tukalo Stefura for 58 years. She survives.
