Butler Radio Network is among Hang Tough Stocking program collaborators that helped in stuffing more than 2,000 stockings and serving as a collection site for items donated by area schools, churches, businesses and organizations and to be delivered to cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy or radiation therapy. Council Passes 2020 Budget: Will Not Include First Responder Command Vehicle

In a three to four vote, Ellwood City Borough Council passed the $15.47 million 2020 budget. Before casting the votes, Councilwoman Lisa Guerrera urged council to consider adding in the purchase of a new first responder command vehicle. Fellow council representatives Rob Brough and Judith Dici agreed with Guerrera, which led to their vote of “No” on the 2020 budget. The following are police criminal complaints filed at the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Lawrence County office of Honorable Jerry G. Cartwright. According to a complaint, on November 20, at 7:21 p.m. officers were dispatched to Dollar General in reference to a retail theft in progress. Upon arrival, a store employee advised there was a female stealing numerous items and putting them in her brown purse.  Teresa Ritter, 25, of Ellwood City was taken into custody. Beverly J. Lucarelli, 81

Beverly J. Lucarelli, 81, of Ellwood City died Tuesday morning at the Good Samaritan Hospice Unit at the Heritage Valley Medical Center in Beaver, following a lengthy illness. Born Feb. 9, 1938, to the late Kenneth and Josephine Kaufman Cowan, Beverly attended Lincoln High School. On Sep. 10, 1955, she married John L. Lucarelli, who preceded her in death. A lifelong area resident, Beverly was an avid baker, known for her elaborate Christmas trays which she gifted to friends and families. Council Approves Amendment to Hospital Zoning Ordinance

In a unanimous vote Monday night, Ellwood City Council agreed to amend the hospital/medical district zoning ordinance that they originally passed in May. The amendment adds to the definition of “Health Services” to mean: “Medical care facilities, facilities and residences included in a a continuum of care entity, as well as establishments providing support to the medical profession and patients, such as medical and dental laboratories, blood banks, oxygen and miscellaneous types of medical supplies and services. According to a complaint, on Wednesday, October 30th at approximately 1:29 a.m. a traffic stop in Perry Township led to controlled substance seizure. Senate Approves Vogel Bill Promoting Telemedicine in Pennsylvania

On October 30, the Senate approved legislation introduced by Senator Elder Vogel (R-Beaver) aimed at promoting telemedicine in Pennsylvania as a way to overcome barriers to quality patient care created by distance and reduce the costs of those services. Senate Bill 857 specifically defines telemedicine as “the delivery of health care services provided through telecommunications technology to a patient by a healthcare practitioner who is at a different location.” It also establishes guidelines regarding who can provide telemedicine services, and provides clarity regarding insurance company reimbursement for those services. “Telemedicine can help patients get the care they need. Council to Discuss Parking Meters, Amendment to Hospital Zoning Ordinance

The Ellwood City Council is set to vote on two proposals during it’s October 21 voting meeting. One is the amendment to the Ellwood City Medical Center zoning ordinance to add facilities and residences included in a continuum of care entity to the definition of health services. There will be a public hearing at 5:45 regarding this amendment. Also on the agenda will be a consideration to remove parking meters in the borough.
