Western Pennsylvania COVID-19 Fraud Task Force Announced

PITTSBURGH – Scott W. Brady, United States Attorney for the Western District of Pennsylvania, and Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro today announced the formation of a joint federal and state Western Pennsylvania COVID-19 Fraud Task Force to investigate and prosecute coronavirus-related fraud. With 96 confirmed cases of Coronavirus in the state of Pennsylvania as of March17, 2020—one announced in Beaver County—Ellwood City residents were taking to Facebook to suggest use of the Ellwood City Medical Center (ECMC) as an option for treatment and testing. During Monday night’s Borough Council Meeting, Ellwood City Mayor Anthony Court said he has received numerous calls this week asking if the ECMC will be a post for virus testing and treatment. Department of Health Provides Update on COVID-19, New Presumptive Positives Bring Statewide Total to 21

Harrisburg, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Health this morning confirmed five additional presumptive positive case of COVID-19 — four residents from Montgomery County and one resident from Northampton County. All are adults and are either in isolation at home or being treated at the hospital. Ellwood City Council Hires Home Blood Services Company to Test DUI Suspects

Ellwood City Council voted to implement an agreement for services for blood toxicology testing following DUI arrests. Monday night council voted unanimously to hire Becky’s Home Blood Services at a rate of $50 per venipuncture. The move comes after the closing of the Ellwood City Medical Center. Since the closing of the hospital, local officers were forced to travel at least 30 minutes to area facilities for the DUI testing. Ernest “Ernie” S. Demeter, 93, of Ellwood City passed away peacefully into eternal rest on February 2, 2020, at Heritage Valley Beaver Medical Center. He was the son of the late Stephen and Anna Marie (Chatlos) Demeter and was born February 5, 1926. He was a graduate of Lincoln High School, in 1944, and married the love of his life Norma on October 2, 1948.
