PHOTOS: 2017 Ellwood City Festival

The annual Ellwood City Arts, Crafts & Food Festival took place this past weekend and those exhibiting and attending enjoyed beautiful weather and included a wide variety of activities, performances and vendors for everyone in the Ellwood City community to enjoy! In the annual 10k race, which took place Saturday morning, Ellwoodian Doug Petrik was victorious yet again. The Festival Committee is all volunteer and the Committee is a non-profit organization, solely in existence as the driving force to make the Festival happen! PHOTOS: Lincoln High Graduate Receives Tommy Novosel Scholarship

Dominic Nocera, a 2017 graduate of Lincoln High School, Ellwood City was awarded the second Tommy Novosel Scholarship at a service on May 28th at the Holy Redeemer Roman Catholic Parish in Ellwood City. Dominic was a member of the National Honor Society, Peer Leadership, Student Council and Club Hope. He was an altar server at the Holy Redeemer Catholic Church and a volunteer for the Carpenter’s Project. His future studies will be in Biomedical Engineering – Prosthetics. Ellwood City enjoyed its graduation ceremony Thursday evening at Lincoln High School. A total of 110 students received diplomas at the commencement.  Highest Honors includes Joseph Cortez, Ethan Fotia, Madison Pawlak, Taylor Petrak, Megan Siegfried, Erika Walley, and James White. VIDEO: Ellwood City Memorial Day Parade

The Ellwood City Memorial Day Parade was held Monday morning, honoring the men and women that died in military service for the United States of America. The parade started at 10 a.m. on the Veterans Memorial Bridge and concluded at the memorial park on Spring Avenue near Circle Playground with a free community picnic.

One of the most popular to-do’s near Ellwood City lies a quaint zoo full of fun for not only kids – but adults too. Living Treasures Wild Animal Park in Moriane offers an up close experience to their guests – the ability to feed and touch many of the exotic animals residing in the park. PHOTOS: Bernstine Among Over Half Dozen Ticketed At Press Conference

During State Representative Aaron Bernstine’s electric press conference yesterday, nearly a dozen attendees, including both he and another state representative were issued parking tickets for parking arguably legally. The conference took place at a residential home on Wampum Avenue – a street that has parking prohibited signs posted along the west side of the street but no signs and no yellow curb present on the opposite side. According to the officer, parking on the side of the road the cars were parked along was illegal due to obstructing a fire lane; however the only no parking sign along the road…

The students at Riverside are getting ready to celebrate the 2017 prom. Doors to the event will open at 6:00 for both the auditorium and gymnasium. Students will walk through the gymnasium beginning at 6:25. Promenade begins in the auditorium at 6:30, followed by prom at Shakespeare’s until midnight. Tickets for the auditorium are $5 each. Seating in the gymnasium is free of charge. After-prom follows until 5am, also at Shakespeare’s. The after-prom features casino games, Minute to Win It, photo booth, and prizes. PHOTO: Senior Receives Ellwood Area Education Association Scholarship

Lincoln High student, Joseph Cortez, received a $1,500 scholarship from the Ellwood Area Education Association. The scholarship is funded every year by contributions from the teachers in the Ellwood City School District. The recipient is selected based on a combination of grades and SAT scores. After graduation, Joseph plans to study engineering at Penn State University, University Park. Photo submitted.

PHOTOS: Greco Throws No-No for Lady Wolverines on Senior Night

Skyla Greco didn’t allow a single hit as Wolverines defeated Steel Valley 5-0 on Tuesday. To get the final out Greco struck out Veronica Sikora pushing her game total to 14 strikeouts against three walks in the contest. Wolverines took an early lead in the second inning. A wild pitch by Samantha Arthrell scored one run for Wolverines.  For the game, the Wolverines ran rampid on the base paths as Anna Ferrucci, Ariana Garroway, Natalia Greco, and Reagan Mittler all collected stolen bases.
