Recent Transmission and Capacity Charges

The attached information is being provided in order to inform Ellwood City Electric customers of the effect the reduction in the Transmission and Capacity charges set by PJM has had upon the Rate Adjustment (PPA Factor) and customer billings during the months of August, September and October.  A comparison of PPA components (Energy Purchased, American Municipal Power-Power Charges, as well as Transmission and Capacity Charges) were used. The Rate Adjustment is added to the electric bill of each user, Residential, Commercial and Industrial. The Rate Adjustment for August of 2015 was 3.10 cents per kWh compared to1.80 cents per kWh…

11 Year Old Riverside Student Sings National Anthem at Pirates Game on Tuesday

Alexa Speicher, an 11 year old student at Riverside, sang the national anthem at the Pirates game Tuesday night. Alexa’s mother, Tanya, said that when Alexa was about four years old she started showing a particular interest in singing- specifically the national anthem, after she witnessed the song being sung at a sporting event. Ever since then, Alexa has been taking singing lessons and has dedicated most of her free time to performing arts and singing the national anthem at local high school and college sporting events. The following information was received from the Pennsylvania American Water Company in regards to yesterdays post about chromium-6 in Ellwood’s drinking water: At Pennsylvania American Water, we take water quality and safety very seriously. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) and Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection set water quality standards designed to protect public health and Pennsylvania American Water treats our customer’s drinking water to meet or surpass these standards, including those set for chromium. Updates on the Proposed Water Treatment Plant

About a month ago we brought a story to you about a former councilman asking council to oppose the new water treatment plant scheduled to be constructed in the near future. The plant is supposedly going to be supplying residents with water from the Connoquenessing Creek and Beaver River instead of where the water is currently supplied from, the Slippery Rock Creek. Windy Ridge Dairy Trying to Breed Out Proteins that Cause Milk Intolerance

Windy Ridge Dairy is one of the most popular dairy stores in the Ellwood City area. The store rests at the edge of their 150 acre farm, mainly consisting of corn fields and their dairy producing cows. Lindsey, one of the store owners, said that they have roughly 80-90 cows, 40 of which are used as milk producers.
