Gov. Wolf: 80% of Pennsylvania’s 18+ Population Have Received First Dose of COVID-19 Vaccine

Governor Tom Wolf this week announced that 80 percent of Pennsylvania’s 18 and older population have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccination. PHOTOS: Lechner, Wilson Earn Class of ’57 Scholarships

Mason Lechner and Rayden “R.J.” Wilson are the first recipients of a scholarship established this year by the Lincoln High School Class of 1957. Each was awarded $1,000 to help them continue their education in a two-year program. Mason is now taking classes at New Castle School of Trades where he plans to earn a degree in electrical technologies. R.J, is going to Butler County Community College for a degree in exercise science and plans to pursue a doctorate in physical therapy. Calvin Presbyterian Church To Host GriefShare Program

Calvin Presbyterian Church will once again host a 13-week GriefShare program this fall each Sunday from 1:30-3:30 beginning September 12 and concluding December 5. We will host a special program, “Surviving the Holidays”, on November 7. No matter what the circumstances, grief recovery is a painful process. A GriefShare seminar/support group is being hosted and sponsored by Calvin Presbyterian Church, with Ginny Brest as the facilitator. McCommons Wins LHS Class of ’57 Scholarship Competition

Molly McCommons was the top winner in the Lincoln High School Class of 1957 scholarship competition. She won the $5.000 scholarship and the $500 award for writing the best essay. Molly, daughter of Kathy McCommons of Wood St., will continue her education at Grove City College where she will “follow my passion for history and political science” in preparation for law school. Her goal is to be a child advocacy lawyer and possibly run for political office. Lawrence County sports just had its greatest year in history, and now the area is about to get an upgrade to its live coverage of the “County of Champions.” The Lawrence County SportsNet Powered by LCCAP is announcing the launch of their broadcasting network for the beginning of the 2021-22 scholastic year. Dinner reservations are being accepted for the Ellwood City Historical Society’s Annual Fund Drive on Monday, Sept.13, at Connoquenessing Country Club. Menu choices are Tuscan chicken stuffed with ham, spinach and mozzarella cheese in a sun-dried tomato sauce; breaded cod piccata with artichokes, onion, capers and tomato white lemon burre; and sirloin medallions with peppers, onions and mushrooms.
