PHOTOS: 10th Annual Franklin Township National Night Out

Franklin Township hosted its 10th Annual National Night Out event Tuesday amid cooler summer temperatures at the Franklin Plaza in Ellwood City. The event was sponsored by Plassmeyer Towing. The free event, open to the public, featured activities for children, fire safety, CPR training, prize giveaways, and food vendors. The Lincoln High School Class of 1978 enjoyed its 45th Class Reunion on Saturday, July 22nd at the Wurtemburg/Perry Fire Department. Sixty classmates and 30 guests celebrated the reunion celebration. A buffet dinner and dessert was provided along with a 50/50 raffle and a Chinese Auction.

Ellwood City Knocked Off In 72nd Annual Little League Tournament

After stringing together two victories to begin their tournament run, Ellwood City ran into some trouble over the weekend in the 72nd Annual Ellwood City Little League Tournament, first falling to defending tournament champion Central Valley 12-3 on Saturday and then to Neshannock on Sunday to eliminate the team from the tournament. Central Valley plays Neshannock Monday evening in the tournament championship game. On Sunday, Neshannock broke open a 1-1 deadlock in the sixth inning with a five-run outburst with two outs to defeat Ellwood City 6-1 at Freidhoff Field on Sunday night. New Artificial Shrubs Placed In Lawrence Avenue Planters

The Borough of Ellwood City and the Ellwood City Revitalization have combined efforts to bring some new beautification to downtown. In June, the Borough of Ellwood City received a $2,000.00 2023 National Pennsylvania Day Mini Grant that was used to assist with costs to replace planter boxes along Lawrence Avenue. Cam Boydell smacked two home runs to power Ellwood City past Shenango 5-2 in the 72nd Ellwood City Little League Tournament on Wednesday night. Boydell rapped a solo home run in the third inning and belted a two-run homer in the fifth inning. Boydell also combined on a one-hitter with Joey Nardone to lead Ellwood City to the winner’s bracket final. Final 2023 Beautification Award Winner Announced

Mayor Anthony J. Court presented the final winner of 2023 Beautification Award to Sue Blythe on Joffre Street. “Sue’s hard work has not gone unnoticed, her yard looks amazing,” said Mayor Court in an emailed statement. Sue was awarded with a yard sign to display and a gift certificate to a local restaurant. This concludes the awards for the 2023 season.
